MIDDLE STATES APPROVES ACCREDITATION! 

On October 20, 2011 the Excellence by Design Validation Team recommended that Aaron Academy be accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools for 7 years.

Transition: Preparing Graduates for College and the Workplace
Integrated Services Coordinator/School Psychologist Adam Moro and Guidance Counselor Adrienne Nagy will advise parents in making decisions for post secondary pursuits for and with their children. This discussion will include preparing for application to college or specialized school, choosing the best college for the individual, the range of supports available in college, important skills for the professional workplace, internships, citizenship activities, and promoting self advocacy.

Sex Education in Special Education
School Psychologists Adam Moro, Amy Reale, Erin Cassidy, Speech Pathologist Alison Sekora, and Guidance Counselor Adrienne Nagy will lead a practical presentation on best practices in communicating with teenage children with special needs about puberty, relationships, and their developing bodies and minds. This workshop will focus on the gap between physical development and cognitive & emotional development often seen in children with special needs, and how to address these changes in a developmentally sensitive manner.
 
Tuesday, May 15, 2012                                                                                      6:00 – 7:30pm
The Playground to the Party: Navigating the Teenage Social Life
Integrated Services Coordinator/School Psychologist Adam Moro, Speech Pathologist/Special Education Teacher Elizabeth Fay, Social Worker Martine Soren, and Guidance Counselor Adrienne Nagy will discuss the evolution of the adolescent social life from Middle School to High School. This presentation will include how to encourage development of social independence and relationships, as well as the role of supervision of social interactions as adolescents grow into young adults.
